time for the march round-up! another month passing means another month where I listened to American Heartbreak everyday -- but I did spend a fair amount of time listening to One Thing at a Time (of which you can read my thoughts on here) and was a big fan of Luke Combs' project as well. here are some highlights :)

'98 Braves / One Thing At A Time, Morgan Wallen, 2023
you win some, you lose some, it ain't always home runs/and that's just the way life plays
this was probably my most listened to song this month. I wrote about it in my entry about this album that I linked above but I just have not been able to get enough of it since it was released. I still think it's lyrically one of the most interesting cuts on the project and I love how the story goes back and forth between Morgan recalling the actual baseball game and the relationship.
F150-50 / One Thing At A Time, Morgan Wallen, 2023
heads, it's headlights headed home, tread left on forgiveness/tails, it's taillights tailin' off, floor that Ford, forget this
this song is so fun to sing along to. it reminds me a lot of the weekend this album was first released because I had listened through the album with one of my friends who is also a Morgan fan and this one was one of her favourites. all the lyrical details relating to being 50/50 (flipping coins, going left or right, heads/tails) are such a great addition to the story and have contributed a lot to my love of this song. it definitely grew on me in the last three weeks I find that I've been going back and listening to it a lot recently.

5 Leaf Clover / Gettin' Old, Luke Combs, 2023
I know I'm a lucky man, but I ain't sure why I am/'cause it ain't like anyone deserves the world in the palm of their hand
I loved this song immediately upon first hearing it. the melody of the chorus is very catchy and the instrumentals with the strings are so pretty. it has probably become one of my favourite Luke Combs songs to date.
Fast Car / Gettin' Old, Luke Combs, 2023
city lights lay out before us and your arm felt nice wrapped around my shoulder/and I had a feeling I belonged, I had a feeling I could be someone
this cover brings the song to life in a new way. the original is absolutely a great song, but Luke's delivery tells the story so well and I absolutely went on a drive the other day and listened to it four times in a row.

She's Alright / American Heartbreak, Zach Bryan, 2022
well, the moon in New York tonight was beautiful, I wish you were around to see it too/I'm so happy I could cry, why'd you have to go and die like that?
I've spent some time this month gearing up for a long-anticipated trip to New York in the summer so I feel like I have subconsciously listened to this song more for that very reason. I've always loved this song for the lyrics, the switch-ups in the musicality throughout, and Zach's emotion that comes through when he sings.

Heading South / Elisabeth, Zach Bryan, 2020
then that boy, he called his daddy to tell him what he did/as the masses screamed the lyrics of a messed up kid/and then he told his old man he was never coming back to be cut down again in a town like that
I don't really have much of a reason as to why I've been listening to this song so much. it's also very catchy and fun to sing along to in the car and I love the story that the song tells.

Nothin' To Lose / FLOWER SHOPS (THE ALBUM): Two Dozen Roses, ERNEST, 2023
you say goodbye, keep on running through the same red lights/rubber to the road and them dang headlights/they always find a highway to anywhere out of here
I also have not been able to stop listening to this song. I love how the chorus sounds so much and I also feel like ERNEST's delivery feels very filled with emotion on this one -- which I wouldn't have expected from a more upbeat song like this one.

What He Didn't Do / 29: Written in Stone, Carly Pearce, 2021
I ain't met the right one yet but I know when I do/he'll treat me right, put me first, be a man of his word, stay home 'cause he wanted to/always fight for my love, hold on tight like it's something that he can't stand to lose
this song is really having its moment at country radio and I'm so glad it is. I love the melodies throughout the whole song and I think it's lyrically such an interesting take on a break-up story.

Heartbreak Drinking Tour / Gravel and Gold, Dierks Bentley, 2023
you wanted the West Coast so I gave it a try/I told you it ain't my speed so you told me goodbye/I couldn't stay in LA, I wasn't ready to go home/grabbed my guitar and my suitcase/cranked it up and hit the road
I've also still been listening to this album quite a bit! you can read my thorough review here, but something about the feel and production of this song has had me coming back to it lots this month.
